Dorothy "Vargo" Brant 82 of Niles, passed away Sunday evening, April 26, in Regency Place of South Bend, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday April 30 with the Rev. Neil Wack C.S.C., Pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church of which she was a member, officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, Ind.
She was born on June 9, 1926, in South Bend, Ind. to Clarence Howard and Josephine (Winrot) Ryan.
On June 9, 1945, in South Bend she married Albert Vargo, who died in 1973.
On Nov. 20, 1974 in Niles, she married Charles M. Brant, who died in 1988.
She is also preceded in death by her long time companion Earl King of Niles, a sister, Doris Kulczar and brother, Jack Ryan.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Becky Myers (Clarence) of Mishawaka, Ind.; sons, Tony Vargo (Linda) of South Bend, Ind., Joe Vargo (Leslie) of Dowagiac, and Mark Vargo (Jennifer) of Mishawaka, Ind.; step-daughters Vera N. Kuhl (Jerry) of Arlington, Texas and Kay Stephens (Terry) of Niles; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Ryan and Clarence (Pat) Ryan of South Bend, Ind.
Dorothy started her working career at the Economy Chop Sue restaurant in South Bend and later at the Happy House in Niles where she worked for over 40 years. She graduated from Washington Clay High School and was a member of the VFW Post 624 Ladies Auxiliary.
