In a combined effort to bring more aid to struggling small businesses in Michiana, the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce and Lake Michigan College have teamed up to provide a string of specified, educational sessions to the public as part of a Small Business Resource Series that will kick off Friday, Oct. 16.
Business owners or interested members of the community can sign up for any or all of the sessions in the series at a price of just $10 per class or $50 for all six sessions, being held at the Bertrand Crossings Campus in Niles.
Both organizations put the series together in recognition of the pressures and responsibilities many small and medium sized businesses are struggling with as they operate under tough economic conditions and a climate of vast social and technological change.
No official registration is needed, but officials at LMC ask that those interested in taking a course RSVP at least three days in advance. Those interested in taking the first session would need to RSVP by Wednesday, by calling the campus at 695-1391.
The series includes:
Session 1: How to Save your Business Money and Save the Planet
There is a lot being said about “going green” these days. This seminar brings an industry expert to bear on your and needs; whether you want to save money the environment, attract customers or even out in your building, we can help. Want to about the latest time-of-use rates from a consumer’s point-of-view? How about the demand and other charges that make up so much of your invoices month – can you control those? Energy Star, SEER, lighting, solar and even wind power – what’s it all mean? Friday, Oct. 16 from 9 to 11 a.m.
Session 2: Disaster Preparedness for You and Your Business – A Summary Course for the Loss Conscience Business Owner
Disaster can strike at any time, and isn’t limited to Mother Nature. Is your business prepared to address a total shutdown? Do you have adequate limits of insurance? How you serve customers while your facilities are being reestablished? Join us as we examine these questions and the ground-work to beginning a disaster plan that will your business respond to a loss, recover from a loss, get back to business faster as a result of preparation. Friday, Oct. 23 from 9 to 11 a.m.
Session 3: Underwriting Yourself: How do Insurance Companies Rate You and Your Business
Allied Solutions Regional Vice President and homegrown Niles resident Jon Martin will serve as translator from ese to common sense to help you make the business decision you can. The group will learn assessing risk, gain a little background on how companies make their decisions, and learn the tricks to the kind of coverage and the kind of deal you to keep us all afloat in good times and bad. Friday, Oct. 30 from 9 to 11 a.m.
Session 4: Social Media – Market Your Business Using the Latest Technology
Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, Linkedln – which ones should you be on? Which ones work for you and business? Our social media network expert will cover basics of these Web 2.0 applications and help you how to market your business using the latest online tools. Friday, Nov. 6 from 9 to 11 a.m.
Session 5: Website Basics
You have a business to run, clients to serve, and yet the modern marketing world means we need to constantly up to date technologically. We know our website is window into the state of our business, but how do we it up? Practical suggestions and several resources available in this series. Friday, Nov. 13 from 9 to 11 a.m.
Session 6: Cybersecurity: Protecting your business
A quick overview of network and computer security issues, including numerous types of attacks computers vulnerable to, the types of attacker profiles, and the and software defense solutions available. Friday, Nov. 20 from 9 to 11 a.m.
