Meet the new Miss Edwardsburg

EDWARDSBURG – India Jackson, 16, a senior at Edwardsburg High School, was crowned 2010 Miss Edwardsburg Sunday night and said the most exciting part of the pageant was preparing for it and spending time with the other contestants.
“I liked getting to know them,” she said.
Alexander Alwine, 17, also a senior, was named Mr. Edwardsburg. He is the captain of the Eddies football team and the son of Randy and Lisa Alwine.
The pageant was held at the Performing Arts Center before a capacity crowd.
Jackson, the daughter of Cynthia Jackson, runs on the track team and is a member of Students Against Drunk Driving. She ran for the contest to do something new and to be able to represent the community. After college, she plans to go to France and teach English.
She wore a full-length green sequined dress with a crossed neckline.
Alwine said it would be a good opportunity for college to run for the pageant and to help out in the community. In addition to playing football, he participates in the winter musical program and the regional honors choir.
Paige Linback, 17, a senior and daughter of Michael and Diane Linback, was named Miss Congeniality.
First runner-up was Paige Cordell, 17, a senior, the daughter of Fran Cordell.
Second runner-up was Kristin Curtis, 17, a senior, the daughter of Lisa Hunt and Loren and Melissa Curtis.
Third runner-up was Bridget Teter, 17, a senior, the daughter of Maura Wieczorek and Jim Teter.
Fourth runner-up was Chelsea Frakes, 17, a senior, the daughter of Steven and Kathy Frakes.
Miss Edwardsburg and Mr. Edwardsburg will participate in the Mr. Blossomtime and Showcase of Queens Pageant March 14, and Miss Edwardsburg will also compete in the Miss Blossomtime Pageant on March 15, both at Lake Michigan College.
The remaining queen contestant of seven was Emily Krieger, 18, a senior. All contestants are from Edwardsburg.
Miss and Mr. Teen
Ashley Horton, 15, a freshman, the daughter of Roger and Faith Horton, was named Miss Teen.
A.K. Hans, 15, a sophomore, was named Mr. Teen. He is the son of John and Tonya Hans.
First runner-up was Megan Mather, 14, a freshman, the son of Mike and Michelle Mather. She was also named Miss Congeniality.
Second runner-up was Ember Smith, 16, a junior, the daughter of Michael and Cheryl Smith.
Third runner-up was Brittney Lubelski, 15, a sophomore, the daughter of Christopher and Tammi Lubelski
Other contestants were Ashley King, Susan Moler and Becca Stanton.
Miss and Mr. Pre-Teen
Amber Barnowky, 10, grade 4, the daughter of Don and Maureen Barnosky, was named Miss Pre-Teen.
First runner-up and Miss Congeniality was Katelyn Boyer, 19, grade 5, daughter of Tim and Tammy Boyer.
Second runner-up was Chelsea Howard, grade 6, the daughter of Dan and Angela Renne and Richard Ward.
Third runner-up was Elizabeth Neuerburg, 10, grade 5, the daughter of Matthew Neuerburg and Rebecca Adams.
Fourth runner-up was Brittney McCord, grade 6, daughter of Sparky and Stacy McCord.
Mr. Pre-Teen was Chance Owens, 12, grade 7, the son of Shawn and Frank (Gene) Brown.
First runner-up was Andrew Boyer, the son of Tim and Tammy Boyer.
Second runner-up was Aaron Beaver, 12, grade 6, the son of Susan Beaver.
Third runner-up was Dion Bice, Jr., 12, grade 7, the son of Amanda Bice and Jeremy Bice Sr.
Fourth runner-up was Michael Mather, 12 , grade 7, the son of Mike and Michelle Mather.
Other contestants were Shania Ahmed, Miranda Hurley, Katie Bayle, Alexander Whitlock, Alexis Ryman and Taylor Reifsnider.
Princess and Prince
Carlee Burger, 8, grade 3, the daughter of Chad and Kim Burger, was named Princess.
Bodi Wegner, 6, kindergarten, the son of Ryan Wegner and Kelly Higley, was named Prince.
First runner-up Prince was Collin Esarey, 9, grade 4, the son of Phillip and Deanna Esarey.
First runner-up Princess was Ariel Burkholder, 6, grade 1, the daughter of Dave and Kelly Burkholder.
Second runner-up was Emma Hurley, 7, grade 2, the daughter of Christopher and Ada Hurley.
Third runner-up was Courtney Leach, 9, grade 4, the daughter of Brenda Leach and Mike Wendt.
Fourth runner-up was Alexis Clark, 9, grade 4, the daughter of Beth Clark.
Jaiden Svadeba, 9, grade 3, the daughter of Jael Suadaba and Trevor Suadeba, was named Miss Congeniality.
Other contestants were Casey Clark, Paige Moler, Caitlin Esarey, Karsyne Stinnett Madison Hall, Brooke Allen, Mallory Barnosky, Marissa Mather and Lucinda Krieger.
The contestants were judged before a panel of six judges.
The theme of the pageant was “A Place in Our World Under the Sea.”
James Chupp of Goshen and Banitha Vinscon of Edwardsburg were masters of ceremonies. Tammy Boyer, pageant director, and Tonya Teter-Hans, head of pageant production, were co-chairpersons.

It is amazing how many Hans and Boyers were chosen as winners down through the ages…..especially when Tammy Boyer and Tonya Teter-Hans are the chairpersons. I would never let my child be involved in this unless other people were allowed on the Edwardsburg board of directors (only the two are allowed now!) Seven contestants is all….they have run Miss Edwardsburg into the ground!
Just to set the record straight…Anyone with any sense can see that the Miss/Mr Edwardsburg Program has grown immensely over the past 7 or 8 years. Obviously imobrn is misinformed and being quite unfair, or is just plain mean. There are 7 hard working volunteer members on the committee, and they should be applauded for their help and dedication to the youth of Edwardsburg. There were 49 contestants in all this year. The economy isn’t good…but the Miss Edwardsburg tradition is alive and well thanks to the obvious hard work of Tammy Boyer, Tonya Teter-Hans, and all of the past and present committee members, and I thank all of them for their efforts! All children have the right to experience this program if they want to…Tammy and Tonya’s children included. Why shouldn’t they have fun with their friends too? Whether it be Little League, Soccer, Rocket Football, Boys or Girlscouts, or Miss/Mr Edwardsburg. All of these programs survive by volunteer parents. We should remember that ALL volunteers should be appreciated, not torn down, for taking time out of their busy lives to give back to their community…THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! There are alot of us out there that do appreciate you!!
