Posted 3 months, 3 weeks ago at 10:38 am.

Michigan Lutheran’s varsity soccer team is the recipient of the 2009 Southwest Michigan Soccer Referees’ Association’s Soccer Sportsmanship Award.

Their head coach, Jeff Lillo, is also the winner of the most sporting coach award.

Each year the 21 area high schools with varsity soccer are rated for the sportsmanship of their coaches, players, and fans by the Southwest Michigan Soccer Referees’ Association’s officials who are registered with the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

Michigan Lutheran scored an overall rating of 4.38 on a five-point scale.  Lutheran also had top ratings in the fans’ category, while Watervliet Grace Christian’s players were rated most sporting.

Michigan Lutheran has won the award nine of the 12 years it has been given.  For Coach Lillo this is his eighth award.
