Many are wondering if Saturday was the last home game Charlie Weis will coach for Notre Dame. The Irish head coach isn't really answering questions about his future. (The Daily News/Kelly Sweeney)
The Niles volleyball program raised $1,400 for the Brian Parker Memorial Foundation through its DIG PINK event held on Oct. 28 against Kalamazoo Central.
Several players received pledges, while others obtained items to be auctioned at the silent auction.
There were also many PINK items available for purchase and the players were all dressed in PINK.
Varsity and junior varsity players picked a male classmate, who was willing to be dressed in their best pink attire. These classmates then solicited donations and votes from the crowd to be voted as “best dressed PINK lady.”
The teams would like to thank Logan Harpenau and Martell Miller for being great sports!
Breast Cancer fighters and survivors were admitted to the game at no cost with the funds being donated to the Brian Parker Memorial Foundation. To learn more about the foundation you could go to their website at www.brianparkerfoundation.org.
The foundation plans to use these funds toward their yearly donation to Memorial Breast Care Center in South Bend, Ind. and to help sponsor a family for Christmas affected by Breast Cancer.
The players would like to thank the community for its continued support to the Niles Athletic programs. We couldn’t have done this without you.
The volleyball program is already looking forward to sponsoring another event next season with a goal of $2,000 for 2010.
