NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Luke Harangody has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as the conference unveiled its weekly awards for the first time in 2009-10.
A two-time first-team all-BIG EAST selection and the Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year, Harangody was a four-time BIG EAST honor roll honoree last season and earned player-of-the-week accolades once.
Harangody (Schererville, Ind.) averaged 26.8 points and 9.3 rebounds in leading the Irish to a 4-0 start for the second straight year.
He averaged 31.8 minutes per game in the four contests and shot 53.7 percent from the field (36-67) and 90.9 percent from the charity stripe (30-33).
In Notre Dame’s season opener against North Florida, Harangody scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He followed that up with a 27-point performance in the win over St. Francis (Pa.) while also grabbing nine rebounds.
In the win over Long Beach State, recorded his first double-double of the season with 29 points and 12 rebounds in the victory.
In Notre Dame’s most recent win over Liberty, Harangody scored 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 28 minutes of action.
Harangody is looking to become the first player in Notre Dame basketball history to score 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds.
He needs just 70 points (1,930) and 14 rebounds (986) to reach that feat.
He has started 87 consecutive games for the Irish since earning his first career start in the 16th game of his freshman season in 2006-07.
He owns a career scoring average of 18.7 in the 103 contests he has played and a 9.6 rebounding average.
