Michiana got the wintry weather that meteorologists had predicted, as a cold front brought single digit temperatures, blizzard-like conditions in some northern portions of Berrien County and plenty of snow.
Niles Community Schools were closed Thursday morning along with many others in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana and street crews were out battling icy and snow-covered roads throughout the night.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning which remains in affect for Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph Counties, including Niles, Buchanan and Dowagiac through the evening.
Lake effect snow is expected to continue throughout the day, combined with winds gusting to 20 or 30 miles per hour, hampering visibility at times.
Road are also said to be slick and icy, making travel hazardous and motorists should use caution while driving to and from home and work.
