Delore J. DeMike / March 2, 1925 – Dec. 1, 2009

Delore J. DeMike, 84, of Edwardsburg died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at West Woods of Niles, Stateline Road, after an illness.

He was born March 2, 1925 in South Bend to Virgil Monroe DeMike and Ethel Rowena Palmer DeMike. She lived in the Edwardsburg area since about 1948, coming from South Bend.

He married Martha L. Edwards, who survives, May 18, 1947 at Calvary Baptist Church in South Bend.

He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Pensacola and USS Washington in Asiatic Pacific and Philippine liberation. He worked in warehouse and delivery for the former Robertson’s Department Store in South Bend. He was of French, Dutch and Irish heritage.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; son, Joseph DeMike, of Nokomis, Fla.; sisters, Marge Lower, of Osceola, Ind., Patricia (Paul) Koch, of South Bend; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Delores Hirth; brothers, Herbert DeMike and Warren DeMike; sisters, Phyllis Aldrich, Ellen Stibich, Rowena DeGraff.

Cremation has taken place. Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The U.S. Navy Honor Guard will present the flag and play “Taps” at the chapel service.
