Just when cabin fever is beginning to set in, Lake Michigan College’s Mendel Center will be hosting an evening of wine, food and jazz to cure the mid-winter blues. “Winter Delights: A Festival of Wine, Food and Jazz” will take place on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 4 to 9 p.m. in the Grand Upton Hall.
A sampling of local wines will greet visitors with wineries including Tabor Hill Winery and Restaurant, Lemon Creek Winery, Leelanau Wine Cellars, Grand Traverse Distillers and Round Barn Winery. To accompany the one-stop wine tour will be local cuisine from Port 412, Schu’s Grill and Bar, Tulips and LMC’s Conference and Event Services.
Other vendors participating in the event include Chocolate Garden, Sweetfire Salsa, Dancing Goat Creamery and Cruise Planners/Advantage Travel of Southwest Michigan.
Lambrecht’s Liquors of St. Joseph will be the on-site point of order for wine and spirits.
Participants may also participate, for a small fee, in a wine tasting class conducted by food and wine expert Yuriko Shimizu Cooper. Shimizu Cooper holds various wine and food diplomas from schools in France and Japan. She has participated in numerous wine and spirit jury panels in Paris, Belgium, Brazil, Singapore and Austria. She currently resides in Three Oaks.
Bryan Lubeck and the band Acoustic Vineyard will provide the musical backdrop for this event. Lubeck has performed concerts with such smooth jazz superstars as Richard Elliot, Mindy Abair, and Craig Chaquico. He is currently working on a project with PBS. His CD credits include his 2009 release, “Vineyard Groove,” “Acoustic Vineyard” and “We Three Strings.” Lubeck’s CDs will be available for purchase at the event.
Tickets for the event are $15 in advance and are available online at www.winterdelightsfestival.com. Tickets can also be purchased that evening at the door for $20. The ticket price includes a souvenir wine glass, four taste tickets and entertainment.
