Volunteer of the Week

The Volunteer Center of Southwest Michigan features a “Volunteer of the Week” each Saturday in the Niles Daily Star and Thursday in the Edwardsburg Argus and Cassopolis Vigilant.

Agency where he volunteers: Michigan Maritime Museum

Dave volunteers as a docent with the Museum’s educational program by interpreting the tall ship Friends Good Will, the Coast Guard Exhibit, and the fishing tugboat Evelyn S. He also volunteers in the museum store running the front desk and assists with research and exhibit design. In addition, Dave works at the Marialyce Canonie Great Lakes Research Library sorting and cataloging the museum’s extensive collection of maritime artifacts.

“There is a tremendous amount of Great Lakes history that people aren’t aware of. The Michigan Maritime Museum provides me with the opportunity to learn it and share it with other people.”
