J. “Ron” Sowers, 60, of Sturgis passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at his home.

He was born Sept. 20, 1949 in Sturgis to the late Jack and Thelma (Rambadt) Sowers.
Ron had resided most of his life in Sturgis and had also lived in Niles and South Bend.

For several years he had been employed by Gray Brothers Stamping in White Pigeon and had attended Whole Life Christian Fellowship Center in Sturgis.

Ron was a member of A.B.A.T.E. and the Sons of the American Legion. He had a love for Harley Davidson motorcycles and was active with the annual Toy Run in Sturgis and he enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by one son, Byron (Korrie) Sowers Jr., of Niles; two daughters, Angie Riley and Jackie Riley, both of Niles; eight grandchildren, Robert William, Miranda, Austin, Jacob, Taiton, Jocelyn, Blayne and Brooklyn; one sister, Myra (Tom) Bergman, of South Bend; two brothers, William Sowers, of Sturgis and Mickey Sowers, of
South Bend; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law; Rose Sowers; and former wife, Mary.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes-Hackman Chapel, 114 South Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-2331.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Byron Sowers will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Whole Life Christian Fellowship Church, 1420 East Chicago Rd., Sturgis. The Rev. Charles Vizthum will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
