Brandywine’s Dykema wins regional title
Published 10:57pm Tuesday, May 25, 2010CONSTANTINE – David Dykema of Brandywine captured the Division 2 400-meter regional title Monday night at Constantine High School.
Dykema won the 400-meters with a time of 50.80 and will compete in the state finals on June 5 in Comstock Park.
Buchanan’s Tyler Ganus qualified for the state finals in three events.
He will be a member of the Bucks’ 400-meter relay team which posted a time of 44.70, as well as competing in the pole vault and 110-meter high hurdles.
Ganus finished second in the pole vault with a height of 12-9. He ran a time of 15.50 in the hurdles.
The Buchanan girls’ team will also send its 400-meter relay team to the finals after posting a time of 52.70.
Torrie Eger was a regional champion in the 3,200-meters are she ran a time of 12:19.90.
Brianna Dineen advanced to the state finals by finishing third in the 100-meters with a time of 12.70.
Kaisha Martin of Dowagiac captured three Division 3 Regional Track & Field championships Monday night.
While Martin was a star for the Chieftains girls’ team, the Dowagiac boys’ team had a pretty successful night as well, finishing third overall.
Martin set a new school record in winning the 100-meters with a time of 11.90.
She also captured the 200-meters with a time of 26.10 and the long jump with a leap of 16-4.
She then helped the 400-meter relay team advance to the state finals after posting a time of 51.90. That team also consisted of Jacoya Brookins, Cierra Mattix and Andrea Bradshaw.
The Chieftains qualified four individuals and a relay team for the state finals on the boys side.
Dowagiac took second in the 400-meter relay with the unit of Troy Butcher, Jon Myers, Damone Huff and Austin Adams as they posted a time of 44.10.
Adams and Butcher also qualified by time for the 100-meters (11.00 and 11.02 respectively), while Dontel Highsmith qualified in the long jump after leaping 20-3.
Chris Gantt finished third in the 1,600-meters with a time of 4:32.40 to advance.
