Local artists honored at Buchanan show
Published 4:48pm Wednesday, July 21, 2010Awards have been announced in the Northern Indiana Artists Inc. annual all-member show through Aug. 1 at Buchanan Art Center, 117 West Front St., Buchanan.
The exhibit includes 59 works. All awards carried a monetary prize.
The Barbara Roberts Memorial Award went to Susie Russell, of Milford for an oil painting; the Carolyn Jagodits Memorial Award went to Daniel Slattery, of South Bend for a watercolor; the Anita Beatty Memorial Award went to Claire Hoinville, of Niles for an oil; and the Glenda Cobb Bixby Award for Expressionistic Work went to Barbara DeLeu, of Mishawaka for a watercolor.
Judges awards went to oil paintings by Katharine Schmidt of Elkhart and Glenda Bixby, of South Bend, and to Granger artists David Ladouceur for an acrylic and Catherine McCormick for a pastel.
Merit awards went to a stoneware jar by Kari Black, of Edwardsburg and oil paintings by Robert Williams, of Stevensville and South Bend artists Norma Helm and Joseph Schultz.
The judge was David Baker, art faculty member at Southwestern Michigan College, Dowagiac.
Northern Indiana Artists has 120 members and celebrated its 65th year of operation in 2007. Meetings are held at the South Bend Regional Museum of Art or Studio Arts Center, Mishawaka, at 1 p.m. the second Sundays of September, November, January and March. For membership information: P.O.
