Holy Trinity to install new pastor Sunday
Published 4:14pm Thursday, August 12, 2010Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1819 Oak St., Niles, Michigan will install Wayne Shearier as its pastor on Sunday.
Shearier will be ordained to the ministry of word and sacrament at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 5020 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. John Schleicher, bishop of the North/West Lower Michigan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
Schleicher will also preside at Shearier’s installation as the thirteenth pastor to serve Holy Trinity. The Service of Holy Communion and Installation will take place at Holy Trinity on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
Shearier has served Holy Trinity since October 2008 as a candidate in the Theological Education for Emerging Ministries (TEEM) program while completing his seminary studies via distance learning through Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. He completed his studies in May 2010.
He currently resides in Benton Harbor with his wife Joan. They plan to relocate to Niles in the near future.
Shearier has also recently served as a part-time, on-call chaplain with Lakeland Regional Health in St. Joseph. Before he began serving at Holy Trinity, he was a member at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Stevensville and a member of the church council.
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Niles was founded in 1954 and is a congregation of the ELCA. Candidates for the TEEM program are nominated by their synods and approved by the ELCA.
Normally, TEEM candidates are age 40 or older. Each candidate works with a Capacities Assessment Panel to design a program of study to complete all of the TEEM educational requirements.
