Niles JV volleyball team second at Coloma Early Bird

COLOMA — The Niles junior varsity volleyball team finished second at the Coloma Early Bird Tournament on Friday.
The Vikings lost to Lakeshore in the title match 25-22, 17-25, 15-11.
In reaching the championship match, Niles lost to Mattawan (25-22, 25-16), defeated Dowagiac (25-9, 25-22), defeated Decatur (25-12, 25-23), defeated Battle Creek St. Philip (25-13, 22-25, 15-13) and in the semifinals defeated Gull Lake (25-19, 25-19).
On Monday night, Niles defeated host South Bend (Ind.) Adams 25-18, 21-25 and 15-7.
Hannah Porterfield had three aces and seven assists, while Kierra Fillwock had 11 kills and 10 digs. Brooke Wilson and Karon Nichols each finished with two blocks.

BRIDGMAN — The Niles freshmen volleyball team lost to the host Bees in the title match of the Bridgman Invitational on Friday.
The Bees toppled the Vikings in the title game 25-19 and 25-19.
In reaching the finals, Niles defeated Michigan Lutheran (25-10, 25-16, 25-19) and Edwardsburg (25-14, 25-22, 15-25) to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinalsit defeated Lake Michigan Catholic 25-15, 19-25 and 15-10.
Niles will take on Edwardsburg on Wednesday.
