Lillian M. Hetler / Dec. 9, 1921 — Aug. 29, 2011

Lillian M. Hetler, 89, of Berrien Center died 1:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29 at Buchanan Meadows Living Center in Buchanan. She was born Dec. 9, 1921 in Evanston, Ill.

Hetler worked for 22 years at Berrien General Hospital in Berrien Center before her retirement in 1986. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in NIles and its Ladies Aide and a member of the Michigan State University Home Extension Group.

She enjoyed making ceramics and cooking, both of which she was very good at. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.

She married LeRoy W. “Barney” Hetler May 15, 1948. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband and her sisters Martha Collins and Olga Johnson. Surviving family includes: son Mark (Julie) Hetler of Eau Claire; son Curt Hetler of Berrien Center; grandsons Matthew and Nathan Hetler of Eau Claire; and brother Ed (Barbra) Kolm of Berrien Springs.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday Sept. 1 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl W. Bassett of the church officiating. Her body will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice at Home or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
