Marie F. Heyn, 81 / Dec. 27, 1929 — Dec. 23, 2011

Marie F. Heyn, 81, of Lawndale Ave. in Niles died at 12:05 p.m. Friday Dec. 23, 2011 at Brentwood Assisted Living Community, Niles following extended illnesses.

She was born Dec. 27, 1929 in Baroda Township to Robert and Marie (Nitz) Trapp. She was the Valedictorian of the class of 1948 at Bridgman High School. She has lived in Bridgman and Niles all her life and was employed several years in the office of Area Building Supply Center in Niles.

Heyn was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, Niles where she taught Sunday School, served as the ladies aid and served as treasurer. When her children were young, she volunteered with the Champion 4-H Club and Cub Scouts.

She enjoyed gardening especially flowers and playing board games and cards at home.

On April 18, 1953 in Baroda she married Ralph A. Heyn, with whom she celebrated their 58th anniversary of their wedding this year.

Surviving family includes her husband Ralph and their children Mark (Lucy) Heyn, Paul (Kathleen) and Betty (Larry) Jerdon, all of Niles; and Mary (Jeffrey) Crosson of LeClaire, Iowa and Bill (Maggie) Heyn of Commerce, Mich; grandchildren Todd Jerdon, Beth Jerdon, Bradley Jerdon, Elizabeth Heyn, Lauren Benson, Matthew Crosson, Alexander Crosson, Caitlin Heyn, Daniel Heyn and Michael Heyn; great-grandchildren Elisha, Elijah, Kysa and Brady; and Marie’s brother Herbert Trapp and sister Adeline Nicely, both of Bridgman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Margaret Crowley.

The funeral service is 10 a.m. Dec. 27 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niles with the Rev. Carl W. Bassett of the church officiating. Committal services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Graceland Cemetery in Bridgman.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Marie Heyn may be made to Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church.
