Niles varsity cheer team takes first place; qualifies for nationals

NILES - The Niles High School varsity cheer team took first place overall and qualified for the national meet at the National Cheerleaders Association camp held at Valparaiso University recently.

The Niles varsity cheer team took first place at the National Cheerleaders Association camp held at Valparaiso University recently. Pictured in front from left are Cassie O'Toole, Zarah Mumaw, Charli Herman, Nichol Payne, Meredith Hollingsworth and Stephanie Watson. In back are Beth Cawby, Jasmine Martin, Katie Devine, Elicia Leonard, Katie Karlowicz and Bridgette Stone.

All the members of the squad were nominated for All-American honors. Six girls tried out and three were awarded All-American status.

They were Katie Kalowicz, Beth Cawby and Stephanie Watson. Watson was named top cheerleader at the camp.

The team is coached by Katie Parquette.
