Kelli Zache nearly tosses no-hitter for Broncos
TEMPE, Ariz. - Western Michigan finished its visit to the "Land of the Sun" with a 3-0 win over Virginia to close out the Kajikawa Classic held in Tempe, Ariz.
Sophomore pitcher Kelli Zache (Brandywine) took a no-hitter two outs deep into the seventh inning, earning her first win in the circle this season.
Western Michigan's (3-2) sophomore hurler took to the circle in the Broncos' final game at the Kajikawa Classic and took control, allowing just one hit over seven innings of work in WMU's victory.
The lone single came back up the middle with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Virginia (0-5) had another batter reach base on an error. That miscue brought the game-tying run against the Broncos to the plate for the second time in as many games.
Just like the Broncos' 5-3 win over Utah on Saturday night, Western Michigan ended the game and the threat with the next batter popping out to Becky Bartosz at catcher.
