NILES - Star running back Ben Brandstatter has made his decision.
The senior multiple sport star has announced the selection of DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. to continue his football career.
Brandstatter won't be the only Viking on campus next fall.
The football roster also includes sophomore Nick Etzcorn and freshman Paul DePoy.
The Brandstatter name is also a familiar one in Greencastle as his brother Andy played there as well.
Brandstatter rushed for nearly 1,700 yards this past season and scored 16 touchdowns for the Vikings. He gained more than 2,600 the past two seasons.
Although he was looking at several schools, Brandstatter said that DePauw really was his first choice.
"DePauw was always my No. 1, but I wanted to look around and make sure I was making the right decision," he said prior to helping the Vikings defeat Coloma in baseball Friday afternoon.
Brandstatter said that Etzcorn and DePoy have been friends of his for a long time, but had nothing to do with the decision to join them.
He did say that his brother Andy had a hand in helping him make his choice.
Visiting his brother while he was there and being accepted into the Management Fellows Program both figured into his decision.
