Wedding of Q and U a delightful time

NILES - White tulle hung from the ceiling fan and place cards had hanging bells.

Father David Otto of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and School officiated at the wedding of Q and U Friday afternoon. Shown from left are bridesmaid Neili Bowling; bride Q, Lauren Hogue, groom U, Cooper Hartline, Father Otto and the best man, Gavin Stefanek.

The kindergarten room of teacher Lisa Rubentheler at St. Mary's Catholic School in Niles was decorated for an important wedding Friday afternoon.

"We teach Q always goes with U, so why not have a wedding," Rubentheler said.

She said she felt like the mother of the bride and the groom, with hours of decorating.

Cupcakes and punch were served to the guests, who included a few parents and the big buddies, older classmates who help the little ones throughout the year with their learning to read.

The spelling lessons really began in the fall, but they decided a spring wedding would be nice.

Father David Otto, pastor of St. Mary's Church, performed the ceremony, "with the power vested by the State of Michigan."

Carrying a blue Q as the bride was Lauren Hogue. The yellow U was carried by the groom, Cooper Hartline.

Bridesmaid Neili Bowling dropped flower petals as she walked down the white cloth before the happy couple.

The best man, Gavin Stefanek, carried a ring pillow.
