Kids benefit from raffle

NILES - One woman will enjoy a day of beauty, while 50 area children will be able to spend a day at Michigan Adventure in Muskegan.

Vicky Williams, owner of Tippy Toes Natural Nail Salon & Spa in Niles started by collecting pennies, after she wanted to do more for the children this year than a picnic.

Each year Mount Calvary Baptist Church had a picnic at Plym Park. This year her aspirations were greater.

Together with other members of the church's Women Walking In Grace and her fellow merchants, a raffle was planned, with the winner to receive a day of beauty.

Amanda (Franch) Pearman of Niles was the lucky grand prize winner, with her name drawn during the Spring Fling at Riverfront Park May 10.

A nurse at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Springs, Pearman is also continuing her studies at Lake Michigan College. She and her husband Greg have a 5-month-old son, Dillon.

She won a pedicure and manicure from Tippy Toes, a facial from Deb Hoese at The Shoppe, a full body massage from Eugenia Apawua at Beauty & Body Wellness and a hair style session with Valray Croom at Bryann's Hair Design.

"It's the only thing I have ever won" she said. She bought the ticket from Williams when she was getting a pedicure last month, saying "it's for a good cause."

Besides children from the church on Ferry Street, other children will be chosen to participate in the bus trip when the opening celebration of the new park at Eighth and Cass street is dedicated in early June.

"We will have a parade, food, a concert, face painting and a puppet show," Williams said. They are inviting the whole city.
