Wednesday, August 13, 2008 10:49 AM EDT
ELKHART, Ind. - The Northern Indiana Chargers Baseball Club, a college preparatory summer team, will be conducting open tryouts for their 2009 summer rosters during two sessions at the Jimtown High School baseball field on Aug. 23.
The Chargers field 18U and 17U teams made up of talented high school baseball players from all over Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan.
Eligibility for the Chargers club includes players that are interested in, and have the talent, academics, and commitment to play college baseball.
While the Chargers will be conducting their tryout, Next Level Prospects (along with owner and former big leaguer, John Riedling) will be present and offering their Online Video Showcase services to the players here in Northern Indiana.
Players may tryout simultaneously for the Chargers during this time while also being videoed for the NLProspects program, or may attend solely for the purposes of participating in only one of these.
The Northern Indiana Chargers play in summer tournaments around the Mid-West and its program is regarded by college coaches as one of the top summer college preparatory programs in the state of Indiana. The Chargers fee for the open tryout will only be $25.
If a player registers for NLProspects Video Showcase, the tryout fee will be waived. The tryout/showcase will be open to players going into their 9th-12th grades this fall.
Players may attend one of two sessions offered on the 23rd. The first session will start at 10 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. while the second session will be from 2 p.m. and run to 5 p.m.
If you are interested in becoming a Charger and/or participating in the tryout/showcase, you may register online at www.chargerbaseball.org or contact Associate Field Manager and Pitching Coach Ben Bailey at bbailey@chargerbaseball.org.
All players must be in "game type attire" for the event.
Next Level Prospects believes in empowering the players and parents in their program by providing the information and tools they need for the college recruiting process at a discounted price.
"We provide prospects a way to get their name and baseball actions in front of the colleges of their choice" Riedling said. "Along with this, we also show them step by step the actions they need to take, both academically and financially, to be in the best position possible when it comes to making a decision on where they will be playing their college baseball."
NLProspects charges a one-time fee of $250 when being videoed for a single position or $350 for two positions.
To register for the showcase, you may do so by going online at the Chargers Website or contact Bailey.
