And they're going with fruit.
The Brandywine High School started their second annual citrus sale on Thursday, with a special appearance and impromptu performance at Shelton's Farm Market, 1832 South 11th St., Niles Township.
The sale will continue through Nov. 24. Shelton's Farm Market will truck the fresh oranges, tangerines, tangelos and grapefruits directly from groves in Florida and Texas to the High School on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Students and band parents will deliver the fruit to those who ordered -or orders can be picked up at the high school.
Brandywine High School band members will take orders throughout the Niles community in an effort to raise much-needed funds for marching band raincoats, instrument repairs, and band travel costs. Most of the products being offered sell for $16 for a half case (equaling 20 pounds) or $26 for a full case (40 pounds).
Anyone interested in ordering the citrus fruit can contact Director of Bands, Sarah McAllister, at Brandywine High School, 683-4800, or Laura Livrone at 574-315-9501.
The Niles High School and Middle School bands are doing some promoting of the vitamin C as well with their 47th annual fruit sale.
Orders for the fruit, which is "guaranteed fresh when it arrives to you" from Florida Indiana River Groves can be completed in a couple of different ways. One can contact any high school or Ring Lardner eighth grade band member to place an order or go to www.fruitorder.com.
When ordering online, click on 'order fundraising' and enter organization ID: 723992. For buyers who live out of town or out of state, after having entered in the organization ID, there will be a 'holiday gift shipping" logo in the upper left corner of the website.
Customers will be allowed to order three different 10-pound boxed fruit sets that may be shipped by UPS directly to their home or office.
A variety of oranges and Florida grapefruit may be ordered in 10, 20 or 40 pound quantities. Students will deliver fruit on Dec. 13.
Once the school order is placed, the fruit is picked, cleaned, boxed and shipped by truck to Niles the very same day. It is never warehoused.
For questions or help with ordering, contact Steve Gruver at 683-2894 ext. 323 or steve.gruver@nilesschools.org.
